2018 Recipients of South Carolina AHEC Family Medicine Awards

Halford Award for Leadership in Humane Education Presented to Charles Carter, MD Dr. E.J. Mayeaux, Jr., Professor and Chairman, USC Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, and Dr. Katherine Stephens, Vice President for Medical Education, Palmetto Health, presents the 2018 Halford Award to Dr. Chuck Carter.  South Carolina AHEC is pleased to announce that Chuck Carter, MD, is this year’s recipient of the Halford Award for Leadership in Humane Education. Rebecca S. Seignious Family Medicine Interest Day

The 28th Annual Rebecca S. Seignious Family Medicine Interest Day was held on August 26 at the Embassy Suites in Columbia. This event was sponsored by the statewide family practice residency directors, the South Carolina AHEC and the South Carolina Academy of Family Physicians. With 103 medical students from 12 medical schools were in attendance, Family Medicine Interest Day serves to stimulate interest and enthusiasm in the field of Family Medicine. The students began the day at a luncheon where they networked with members of the South Carolina Academy of Family Physicians, faculty and residents from South Carolina’s Family Medicine residency programs. After lunch, each student attended four hands-on workshops conducted by faculty and residents from South Carolina AHEC’s Family Medicine residency training programs. Congratulations to South Carolina AHEC Resident Scholarship Symposium Participants and Winners

The South Carolina AHEC is pleased to recognize this year’s Resident Scholarship Symposium award winners. The annual South Carolina AHEC Resident Scholarship Symposium is held each year in conjunction with the South Carolina Academy of Family Physicians’ (SCAFP) annual meeting. This year’s symposium in Hilton Head Island featured  16 podium presentations and 14 poster presentations. The presentations focused on research and quality improvement projects and gave residents an opportunity to engage with SCAFP members to discuss how these projects translate into practice.
